ABSTRACT
The details give character that testifies to the identity of the place and the building craft styles of the time. They are evidence of the sense of beauty and artistic talent of their makers. The article attempts to present the results of research on the question of what impact architectural detailing had on the former German colony settlement in the district of the city of Luboń - Żabikowo. At that time plans were made for a German colony in Żabikowo, whose German settlers were also supposed to supply labor to industrial factories and brickyards operating nearby. The entire settlement consisted of about 150 typical and similarly laid out internal function buildings. Architectural detail, shaped with bricks, played an important role in the settlement. Architectural detail had an impact not only on the individual building but also on the appearance of the urban space of the settlement. This paper presents a study of the exterior details of residential buildings. In the first stage of the analysis, the former area of the Żabikowo colony was reconstructed on the basis of source and photographic materials. Objects that reconstructed or unoccupied exist in the space of the city district were confirmed. In the second stage, individual elements of the colony's architectural details were considered and discussed. The final stage was a discussion of the influence of datalines and facade ornamentation on the entire historic settlement.
