This article is a collection of reflections on the design of forms of commemoration at the sites where some of the tragic events happened to our nation during World War II. The article presents various categories of such sites and shows examples of design solutions illustrating certain tendencies and principles that can be observed nowadays. The consider-ations are based on a study of several hundred commemorative sites built at places of executions and other places related to suffering throughout the country, an archival search for photographs documenting these events, and the tracing of activities serving to preserve them in our nation’s collective memory and in the consciousness of other nations.
