In Vitruvius’ triad we find the term venustas – beauty, as one of the three basic features of architecture. The need for communing with beauty is one of the essential psychological needs of man, and architecture accompanies man constantly. Numerous studies show the conscious or subconscious aesthetic reactions of architecture users. The housing environment is an area whose architecture, urban layout and aesthetic quality have an impact on the quality of life and human health. In this environment, the human being is formed, lives, rests, and more and more often works. The article defines the fixed and variable structural elements influencing the aesthetic quality of the housing environment and the quality of life. Particular attention was paid to the so-called human scale and natural elements. Detailed features that the housing environment should have from the point of view of aesthetics and health of the inhabitants were indicated.
