ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to evaluate the functionality and ergonomics of spatial solutions in veterinary facilities, and to identify the impact of architectural design flaws on procedural safety and staff comfort. Research data was collected using the CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interviewing) method, utilising an original mixed-structure questionnaire directed at veterinarians and veterinary technicians. Analysis of the obtained data revealed irregularities in the design of circulation routes, including the critical—from an aseptic standpoint—use of operating rooms as passageways, as well as the intersection of clean and dirty traffic flows. Significant ergonomic deficits in staff break areas were also identified, constituting a factor that diminishes the psychophysical well-being of employees. Based on the research conducted, it was concluded that there is a necessity to revise design standards and implement architectural solutions that support the "Fear Free" concept. The presented study aims to identify the gaps that need to be addressed in the design of modern veterinary facilities, with a focus on principles that take into account the needs of patients, their owners, and medical staff. Ensuring a high standard of design for such facilities is crucial for the well-being of users and the proper treatment of hospitalised animals.
