ABSTRACT
In times of rapid deurbanization, the well-being of city inhabitants is increasingly recognized as one of the priorities in urban design. Preventing the outflow of urban population to the suburbs and smaller settlement units is crucial from the point of view of maintaining the spatial order of the metropolis.
The aim of this article is to assess which elements of urban space that meet the criteria of evidence-based design are most effective in increasing the sense of well-being of its users. This assessment is based on the example of the revitalization project of Saint Martin Street in Poznań, implemented in the years 2017-2023. The research was conducted using the survey method in January and February 2025. The main research tool was an outdoor survey supplemented with interviews.
The conclusions drawn from the analysis of the research results are the need to take care of the quality and aesthetics of the street, including organizing the advertising chaos, as well as adapting the space to climate change. It is worth emphasizing that the role of biophilic design is particularly important due to the strong positive impact of people's contact with the natural world.
