ABSTRACT
Many of today's urban interiors can be described as a contemporary memorial. The purpose of this article is to discuss the contemporary place of memory in the context of an important cultural element whose task is to commemorate important historical events. Krakowskie Podgórze is a district within which there are a considerable number of public spaces relating to the memory of the place in a symbolic and unique way. Speaking of memorials, it should be noted that they can convey their history through their own morphology, physiognomy, as well as spatial solutions. The article aims to determine, using the example of Krakow's Ghetto Heroes Square, how the contemporary urban interior conveys the history of the place. The choice of the square was determined by its function as a contemporary memorial site in the historical fabric of the city. The history of the square will be subjected to a comprehensive analysis and comparison of its form before and immediately after the reconstruction. After all, important in the historical fabric of the city is the existence of memorial spaces that freeze their history in time to be able to pass it on to the present, but also to future generations.
