The article contains selected aspects related to the analytical and design process of rebuilding the main square in the city from the perspective of an architect – designer, on the example of Fryderyk Chopin Square in Nowy Tomyśl. Formal – spatial or functional conditions, or their combination are an indicator of the space defined as the center. Cultural values of the place, including those related to history, related to its identity, determine the extent of behavior, exposure and permissible changes of their essential elements.
