ABSTRACT
Marian Güntzel (1882-1939) was responsible for the city’s green spaces in the interwar period in Bydgoszcz. His activities weren’t limited to supervision over the inheritance of the invader (in 1920 Bydgoszcz belonged to one of the “greenest” cities). As a City Garden director he took part in national competitions, wroted articles, and popularized knowledge about landscape architecture. He was an academic lecturer, enthusiast of “jordans gardens” and co-founder of the Bydgoszcz Gardening Society. His greatest artistic achievement is the design and implementation of the Botanical Garden opened in 1930 on the occasion of the 10 th anniversary of the Bydgoszcz’s return to Poland. His legacy deserves more than a reminder but also is a part of the history of polish landscape architecture.
