ABSTRACT
The article, on the example of Opole-Zdrój, presents a way of including the problems of cultural heritage protection in the processes of socio-economic transformation in a region dominated by the mining and energy industry. The activities of the Turów mining and energy complex have caused negative effects in the region over the last 75 years. Exces-sive extraction of lignite led Opolno to almost complete annihilation. After the threats had been averted, the problem of revitalization and its drive emerged. Taking advantage of dormant heritage can be effective. According to Perroux's theory, this potential – existing in a some focus – could give the revitalization wave strength. In Opole, the key element (fo-cus) of the process is the revitalization of the abandoned building of the Imperial Baths - a future catalyst for social and economic innovation. The article presents analytical activi-ties and concepts for the adaptation of the Łaźnia project, carried out by students and employees of the Faculty of Architecture (PUT) in cooperation with the "Dom Kołodzieja" Association.
