ABSTRACT
The manor in Cudzynowice, owned by the Krzyżanowski family since 1821, served as a hub of intellectual, cultural, and patriotic life for over two centuries. Built of red brick in the mid-19th century and expanded with a two-story annex in 1880,
Since 2004, under the care of private owners, comprehensive restoration works have aimed to restore the building to its 1926 appearance – the period of its greatest splendor. Advanced technologies were employed, including 3D scanning for inventory, KEIM mineral mortars for plaster reconstruction, and Helifix rods for structural reinforcement. In 2024, a project was launched to reconstruct the historic orangery, which once connected the manor with the annex. The design, developed in collaboration with the Provincial Conservator of Monuments, envisions a harmonious integration of modern materials (reinforced concrete, laminated glass) with historical fabric, adhering to reversibility principles and minimal intervention in authentic walls.
The article analyzes technological and conservation challenges in detail. It also presents innovative solutions, including a dual-pitched aluminum skylight mimicking historical forms and a dilatation system preventing stress transfer. The orangery project exemplifies a dialogue between tradition and modernity, combining 21st-century functionality with respect for material heritage. Its implementation sets new standards in heritage conservation, proving that modern architecture can become a tool for narrating history rather than competing with it. By balancing technical precision with aesthetic sensitivity, the Cudzynowice initiative offers a model for revitalizing aristocratic complexes while preserving their cultural and historical identity.
