ABSTRACT
The article addresses the specificity of shaping space, which mainly involves the use and adaptation of forms found in the natural environment of Lanzarote Island (volcanic craters, lava tubes, caves), in relation to architectural projects designed by Cesar Manrique. Selected, analyzed spatial objects became a source of information collected on the basis of the author's in situ research. The acquired, selected graphic material (photographic documentation) was included in the study, giving an overview of the scale, color and general character of the designed objects and spaces, as well as the design style of their author. The article also includes a table, along with a summary, containing the author's comparative list of individual elements related to the projects: connection with the external context - compliance, scale, functionality / usability, colors, greenery, ecological aspects, accessibility of architecture, originality of the solution. The methods used in the work: observational, heuristic and case study, were to facilitate the analysis of connections and mutual relations between the natural environment and humans in relation to selected architectural creations, in order to find an answer to the question whether a holistic way of shaping space can result in preserving identity and maintaining cultural tradition while maintaining the author's vision of artistic creation?
