ABSTRACT
Due to the rising need for medical care, it’s crucial to develop an effective healthcare system. Medical crew is a key aspect. Research shows a correlation between the crew's comfort in their workplace and the quality of work performed (healing and live saving). The study focus on architectural possibilities responding the staff crisis.
Factors contributing to the crisis include: ageing societies and labor migrations. Work pressure and stress burden one of the most stressful professions. One of the solutions may be workspace reorganization with the positive impact on work quality, described in numerous studies.
This paper analyzes described criteria and develops key factors, important for designing a workplace. The study focuses on literature analysis and economic review, using medical, economic, architectural, and statistical data. The medical crew-focused papers were analyzed, together with staff crisis premises, compared with vacancy and demographical data.
Results show that spatial organization may affect work comfort. Stress, work burden or insufficient salaries are common reasons for leaving the profession. However, it is believed that proper work conditions, including well-designed spaces: equipped properly, close to the workplace break rooms, thermal comfort, air quality, and access to the sunlight may affect work environment quality positively, leading to creating stress reducing spaces. The paper highlights the need for improving work conditions to ease the situation and encourage new staff to enroll in a certain workplace. Results could help the governors in establishing new standards of restructuration and workplace organizations taking into account workers’ needs.
