ABSTRACT
The aim of this article is to present two alternative architectural concepts for a rehabilitation hospital, developed for the same site located at 2 Uzdrowiskowa Street in Kiekrz. Both designs were developed on the basis of identical site-specific, environmental and planning conditions, as well as shared programme and functional framework assumptions, constituting independent responses to the same design problem. Accordingly, the aim of this study is to analyse the impact of differing decisions regarding land use, functional and spatial structure, architectural form, and the building’s relationship with the surrounding landscape on the creation of an environment that supports the rehabilitation process. A comparison of the two proposals makes it possible to identify common features and differences arising from the adopted design solutions, as well as to recognise the various possibilities for implementing design principles centred on the patient’s needs. The aim of this article is to present two alternative architectural concepts for a rehabilitation hospital, developed for the same site located at 2 Uzdrowiskowa Street in Kiekrz.
