ABSTRACT
Contemporary Polish architects rarely deal with architecture of a social nature. One example of a marginalised typology is the single mother's house, which presents a significant design challenge due to the specific needs of the users. The following article focuses on the architectural aspects of the design of single mothers' houses, contrasting theoretical assumptions with the actual needs of the occupants. It considers current regulations in Poland, a case study of an institution in Leszno, and the findings of a report by the Supreme Chamber of Control. The text makes use of the POE's qualitative research, the results of which are compared in a summary table. The summary table is divided into five quality criteria: technical, functional, organisational, behavioural and economic. The results of the study indicate that the current regulations only define the basic standards that such facilities should provide, and that architects should pay particular attention to safety, functionality and material sustainability. The discussion section presents a student project that implements these assumptions. The article emphasises that the designed facilities should provide decent conditions for the residents, which can support their return to society.
