The article provides an insight into the fundamentals of design, which are the basis of design attempts by beginner interior architecture students. The guiding principle of the original multi-stage design task conducted with interior de-sign students was the search for a multi-dimensional spatial relationship based on the de-sign and analytical process with emphasis on, inter alia, harmonious composition, human scale and conscious aesthetic creation. The extended exercise provided a creative impulse and an important factor in shaping design awareness, opening the imagination of students and equipping them with the necessary design tools, such as understanding the form, function, material and the relationship with the recipient of the project and the environment.
